Know the game

Two hands. One simple starting point.

Baccarat compares two hands called Player and Banker. These are the names of the hands, rather than instructions about who you must be at the table.

The higher final point total wins; equal totals produce a tie. Card values and drawing rules determine how each hand is completed.

Start with the table rules

Commission, payouts, side bets and special outcomes can vary between game versions. Read the rules for the particular table before taking part.

The basics

How baccarat scoring works

Understand the card values before reading the result.

  • An ace counts as 1 point.
  • Cards from 2 to 9 keep their face value.
  • A 10, jack, queen or king counts as 0 points.
  • Only the last digit of a hand total counts: 7 + 8 = 15, so the hand is worth 5.
  • A hand total ranges from 0 to 9, with 9 the highest.
  • Additional cards are dealt according to fixed drawing rules; the player does not choose to hit or stand.

This is a basic introduction. Consult the full drawing and settlement rules for the specific table.

Frequently asked questions

Baccarat questions

What do Player and Banker mean?

They are the names of the two hands compared in baccarat. They do not mean that you personally deal or control either hand.

Why does a total of 15 count as 5?

Baccarat uses only the final digit of the card total. A total of 15 therefore has a point value of 5.

Can I choose whether a third card is drawn?

In standard baccarat, additional cards are dealt according to fixed rules rather than a hit-or-stand choice.

Are all baccarat paytables the same?

No. Commission, special outcomes and side bets can differ between versions. Read the rules for the specific table.

Is there a guaranteed way to win?

No. Outcomes are uncertain and previous hands do not guarantee the next result. Set limits and do not chase losses.

Can I play baccarat on this page?

No. This is an informational landing page. It does not deal live hands, accept bets or process payments. Contact us for questions about the official destination.
